Creative Growth Zone

In this project, my goal was to push beyond my creative comfort. My plan was to succeed a tattoo that is more difficult in design. My media choice was fake skin and dark purple ink. The tools I used during this project include: tattoo machine, tattoo ink, gloves, aquaphor. I was unfamiliar with tattooing and I decided to give myself a challenge.

I was inspired by an iconic horror movie character from the movie Elvira: Mistress of the Dark. I wanted to incorporate the new school tattoo style into my final design and this is how the final developmental drawing turned out.

Practice Work

Above are examples of tattoo pieces I practiced on fake skin so I could have some experience before diving into the final piece. The image on the left shows my practice in line-work, and the image on the right shows my practice with shading.

Final Piece

This is my final piece. I really enjoyed the outcome and the overall process of it. I used a feathering technique for the shading to show the light to dark.
